J.P. Morgan is building the on-chain treasury infrastructure

J.P. Morgan is not talking about tokenisation anymore: it is building the on-chain treasury infrastructure. Kinexys Digital Payments expands to five new tokenised deposit currencies, moving from isolated tokenised payments to real-time, programmable, multi-currency cash pooling.

01The announcement: five more currencies

AUDAustralia

Australian dollar tokenised deposit.

HKDHong Kong

Hong Kong dollar tokenised deposit.

JPYJapan

Yen tokenised deposit.

RMBChina

Renminbi tokenised deposit.

SGDSingapore

Singapore dollar tokenised deposit.

With this expansion, Kinexys Digital Payments covers the main Asia-Pacific currencies. Early adopters are already live: Payoneer for the Australian dollar, JERA Global Markets for the yen.

02Why it is a turning point

The point is no longer to prove that a payment can be tokenised. It is to offer treasurers real-time, programmable, multi-currency cash pooling, deployed as production infrastructure. For a multinational, it promises liquidity that can be mobilised continuously across entities and currencies, without depending on local payment system hours.

The real question: which banks will still be relevant when on-chain treasury becomes the new standard?OpenbanQ Insight

For European transaction banks, the challenge is to define their position on the money layer (tokenised deposit, regulated stablecoin, central bank money) before large multinational corporates equip themselves elsewhere.
